The Faceless immediately teleported in front of it, freaked out and disappeared along with it, giving Vincit the idea that the Faceless hates the smiling masks. The storage room was full of masks and mannequins, one of which was wearing one. Sure enough, when Vincit approached the storage room the Faceless appeared and attacked him once again. The Faceless freaking out and teleporting all over the place. An audio tape that he can listen to is that the appearance of the Faceless has been causing a lot of problems for the Authorities, so it is heavily suggested that the alarm was because of them. Before the Authorities can detain him however, the alarm is raised due to an emergency in the sleeping room, allowing Vincit to slip by and look for his friend. When Vincit and his friend's escape attempt fails and the friend is captured, Vincit is left without a partner the next day, something that is against the rules. Vincit managed to avoid it and push through the exit door, at which point the Faceless broke off its pursuit, likely due to his target now being surrounded by Authorities. The Faceless then made an ear-piercing noise and gave chase as Vincit ran away, intent on killing him. They simply stared at him, until suddenly taking a step towards him, then another and another when Vincit backed off. The stranger stared at Vincit's face without saying a word, not responding to Vincit's question of who they are and why they are here. He traversed the dark corridors of the trial until he reached the exit door, but his path was blocked by the Faceless. This is likely because the King himself is constantly smiling and forces everyone else to be smiling as well. When encountered at the end of Chapter 1, the Faceless attacks anything with a smiling mask on and freaks out whenever Vincit puts one on its face, suggesting a deep-seated hatred for anything resembling a smile. Despite their immense strength and supernatural abilities, the Faceless sticks to the shadows and appears to avoid the King's Authorities, perhaps still afraid of being caught and returned to the King's prison. Since the Faceless never actually speaks throughout the game their personality is incredibly ambiguous, but their actions and loud screeching make it clear that they are in a constant state of pain and anger. The Faceless is also the same size and has the same hooved feet as Vincit, meaning it is also still just a goat child. One horn is bursting out of the left side of their skull. The game over screen shows that, underneath, their mouth seems to have been melted off and their eyes and eye sockets are missing entirely. They are wearing white, ragged clothes that seems to have been crudely stitched together, with what appears to be some kind of sack pulled over their head during gameplay.
